On July 11, 2016, the Government of Canada and Ukraine signed the Canada-Ukraine Free Trade Agreement (CUFTA). This represents an important milestone in the Canada–Ukraine bilateral relationship and will create new opportunities for businesses in both countries.Canada and Ukraine will now proceed with their respective domestic implementation processes in order to bring CUFTA into force. Hence, creating the opportunity to use this Canattainit Blueberry Project to better the relations between Canada and Ukraine enhancing Ukraine's ability to build the nation through agricultural output and the secondary processing manufacturing done in Ukraine. With the Canattainit Marketing Plan we are also developing the International blueberry market for Canadian Farmers produce. The project will encompass a 2 pronged approach one with identifying the best blueberry plant species for commercial production in Ukraine we also want to identify the level of growth is best suited for exporting the blueberry plants from Canada and transplanting them in Ukraine. The second aspect of the project is expanding the possibilities for the Canadian Wild Blueberries by developing the market in Ukraine and EU for the existing production of blueberries in Canada as well as establishing the market for the Ukrainian-Canadian Wild Blueberry Version produced in Ukraine.  

20 April 2016FREDERICTON (GNB) – The provincial government has allocated nearly 1,600 ha (4,000 acres) of Crown land for wild blueberry production and development in northern New Brunswick.“The allocation and development of these lands will contribute to making New Brunswick the largest producer of wild blueberries in the world,” said Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries Minister Rick Doucet. “The wild blueberry industry is poised for expansion in New Brunswick.”The provincial government has offered Crown land in Gloucester and Northumberland counties to lease for commercial cultivation of wild blueberries. Growers submitted applications through a request for proposal process in the fall of 2015, with 37 applications being accepted.Applicants had to meet several criteria to prove their ability to develop and operate their projects in a sustainable manner. Applications were reviewed by a committee of representatives from the Department of Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries, the Department of Natural Resources and Opportunities NB. The approval process was developed with input from industry representatives.The current economic impact associated with wild blueberry production in the province is estimated at more than $39 million, with about 360 full-time jobs and about $11 million in labour income. Last year saw record production of about 78.1 million pounds being harvested in New Brunswick.“I congratulate the producers who have acquired new land to develop this industry,” said Doucet. “Wild blueberry production has enormous potential for fuelling economic growth in our province, particularly when you consider that the value of production at the farm gate has more than tripled over the last decade.”In the fall of 2016, another call for proposals will be issued for lands in northeastern New Brunswick.More than 300 farm families are involved in the province’s wild blueberry industry. New Brunswick’s production currently accounts for 25 per cent of Canada’s overall production of the fruit.

 Canattainit is a Federally Incorporated  Canadian Corporation  and has a JVP agreement with  Volodymyr (Vlad) Maydanets, Head of Ukrainian Company, Canattainit Ukraine acting as a “Joint Venture Partner"  for the development and implementation of the Blueberry Business in Ukraine, whereas Canattainit will be fully utilizing the resources available to a Canadian company doing business under the Canada-Ukraine Free Trade Agreement (CUFTA) in Ukraine; and arrange for the Canadian Grown Blueberry Plants to be exported to Ukraine. 

With a focus on fresh blueberry fruit to export, there will be numerous employment opportunities for unskilled labour in Ukraine to harvest the blueberries of high and consistent quality, picked by hand and exported fresh to attract new customers. Also, as Ukraine increases the proportion of blueberry fruit shipped to close EU market, fruit quality will become more essential and a defining point in the Ukraine Blueberry Industry. 

Canattainit  having its registered office in New Brunswick we will work closely with the Government of New Brunswick with their existing project to propel New Brunswick wild blueberry growth to the top in the world. 

Canattainit will also engage the other Canattainit Partners to market blueberries in their respective countries and markets that they are presently engaged.

Canattainit Ukraine has strength within the Ukrainian Business circles through CEO Vlad Maydanets 20 years of upstanding business in several areas mentioned above. These successful business activities will be translated into the Blueberry farm and all business developments within Ukraine. 

Canattainit proposes a Case study of Blueberries grown in Canada for commercial blueberry plantings in Ukraine. Positioning Ukraine in a pivotal role in expanding the worldwide blueberry marketplace by improving yields, reducing costs, improving blueberry fruit quality and provide greater economical and ecological sustainability in the region; whereas blueberry varieties of plants are to be studied as new options for expanding the blueberry fruit industry in Ukraine.   

The auspicious nature of the project is to foster the bilateral relationship between Canada and Ukraine with the newly signed Free trade Agreement thus involving both countries governmental Agriculture Departments in a Scientific study of the growing regions in Ukraine with our designated experimental farms under this proposal. 

The focus of this project is precision agriculture for superior productivity and improved irrigation production practices and fertilization isometrics to reduce costs and improve sustainability. Studying what the different species of plant produce in the way of weight of harvested fruit per plant and the variation in the flavours produced by each plant expanding into which flavours are better in blueberry items processed and produced with the considerable variation in production systems across the various blueberry products.

The second aspect of the project is expanding the possibilities for the Canadian Wild Blueberries by developing the market in Ukraine and EU for the existing production of blueberries in Canada as well as establishing the market for the Ukrainian-Canadian Wild Blueberry Version produced in Ukraine. 

The Blueberry Plants are usually established on raised beds. Pine chips or sawdust are often used for mulching. Removing the least productive canes annually or biannually with limited fine pruning in the canopy. 

Drip irrigation is used (microjet irrigation is also used) for the injection of fertilizers, soil amendments, and other water-soluble products. As a benchmark to the growth factors and production values attributed to the Canadian Wild Blueberry Bushes we will simultaneously grow Highbush and Rabbiteye, and other Blueberry plants of different diversities. 

For the comparison data to create the graphs need to chart the blueberry assortments and their performance in Ukrainian conditions and further through a selective breeding program ultimately developing the strains of blueberry bushes that exhibit characteristics such as improved yield, flavour, and resistance to disease.

 Identify further which areas in Ukraine and bio cultural conditions are best suited for the various varieties to be commercially farmed. 

Hence,  categorize  which  sections  in Ukraine are the most important blueberry-producing areas with optimal soil and climatic conditions for the planting of blueberries.   

In summation, this project is first and foremost a Scientific Case Study on Canadian Blueberry Growth and Cultivation in Ukraine, secondly we will establish a marketing association based in Ukraine, the UKBGA “Ukraine Blueberry Growers Association” to facilitate the sales of Blueberries grown in Ukraine and Canada.   This marketing arm will maintain control of grading system with established quality standards and extol the values and pleasant flavours associated with the varieties of blueberries that are being sold through the UKBGA. The other focus will be to create new market opportunities for blueberries being sold through the UKBGA and this includes the Canadian producers that wish to participate in our international market to alleviate the bottleneck in the existing marketplace and generate interest in Canadian Blueberries and the products made from the quality grown blueberries from Canada and those of Ukraine.  As part of the marketing for Blueberries Industry with increased profitability due to rates of currency exchange with expectations of the blueberry products expansion at a fast pace generating investment in research and innovation with projects like this one between Canada and Ukraine we wish to develop a closer relationship between government researchers and the private industry and address and solve various local production problems.      

The quaint picturesque village of Chudvy and friendly inhabitants adds a unique aspect to the project. Chudvy is a farming community with lovely well kept forested areas to keep the biodiversity of the territory intact.  the head of the village council, Yuri Volodymyrovich  is seen in the video above and is in full support of Canattainit Ukraine and our Blueberry Project being in his district. Currently, we are in the area for blueberry cultivation. Here will be planted 5 varieties of blueberries: Aurora, Bluecrop, Eliot, Duke, Chandler. There is a severe shortage this kind of berries in Ukraine. After all, what we are growing now, covers only 5-10% of the market demand. Last year 2.5 thousand tons of blueberries were sent to the European Union. We already have experts, agronomists and middle-level employees in Ukraine who understand the planting, cultivating and harvesting this agriculture. In Ukraine there is already a strong market and development of blueberries. We feel that the Ukrainian and European markets are in need of these berries. For this reason we see prospect of this direction and we offer development with your support.”  

Canattainit Ukraine has chosen this project site in Chudvy as an ideal location to start with our Blueberry Farming Project as seen in this picture this could be a scene from New Brunswick, Canada.    DFrom the above video, specialist in ameliorative agro technical actions Vitaliy Ivanovich says, "This area, where we are standing now, is offered for further blueberry cultivation. Now experts will tell you why this area is suitable for us. I should add, that thisarea is located in Ukraine, Rivne region, Kostopolsky district, Chudvy village.The word is given to the village council head. The head: Indeed, this area is located in a very good place below sea level, namely in the valley. It promotes the best moisture for cultivation of this culture. It is very advantageous because the land is suitable for growing blueberries. The specialist: This plot area has more than 160 hectares that is located in the floodplain Horyn, separated by a dam. There are channels on the territory, which regulate water levels. Even in the dry period, water can be taken from the river Horyn behind a dam. Basically, here are peat soils having mineralization over 7 Ph. All this demonstrates that the area has favorable conditions for blueberry cultivation.”
